Chariot Crowdfunded Route Program

Terms & Conditions

Last Updated on May 23, 2017

What is the program?

Chariot's Crowdfunded Route Program (the "Program") is intended to help Chariot design transit routes that meet the needs of Chariot's customers. Participants in the Program have an opportunity to voice their preferences for new transit routes serving the areas where Chariot operates. Chariot values user suggestions, and the Program provides an opportunity for participants to earn free or discounted ridership on new routes resulting from Program participant suggestions.

How does it work?

  • Through Chariot's website, individuals may suggest new transit routes in Designated Geographic Markets (defined below) ("Proposed Routes"). These individuals are then given the designation of "Founder" of the Proposed Route. No purchase is necessary to become a Founder of a Proposed Route. Individuals interested in becoming a Founder of a Proposed Route should go to https://www.chariotsf.com/routes.
  • Proposed Routes are then posted on Chariot's website for 30 days, along with the minimum number of Supporters (defined below) necessary to support the route.
  • During this 30-day period (the "Support Period") other individuals may elect, through Chariot's website, to support the Proposed Route by indicating that they are interested in becoming future riders of the Proposed Route and making a financial pledge of support for the Proposed Route. Individuals making a pledge of support are then given the designation of "Supporter" of the Proposed Route. Individuals interested in becoming a Supporter should go to https://www.chariotsf.com/routes.
  • If a Proposed Route receives the needed number of Supporters within the Support Period, Chariot expects that it will launch the route within two weeks thereafter on a trial basis to evaluate customer interest and ridership for the Proposed Route.

What financial pledge is required by supporters of a proposed route?

To become a Supporter of a Proposed Route, a financial pledge — the amount of which is posted for each Proposed Route and can vary from route to route depending on factors like route distance — is required via credit card. Chariot will not charge a Supporter's credit card unless it launches the Proposed Route within two weeks following the expiration of the Support Period.

What do I receive if I am a Founder?

If your Proposed Route gets the required number of Supporters within the Support Period and Chariot launches your Proposed Route as described above, then you will receive free ridership on your Proposed Route during its trial run (up to a maximum of 30 days of free ridership).

What do I receive if I am a Supporter?

If you are a Supporter of a Proposed Route that Chariot launches as described above, your pre-payment purchases a week's worth of rides, in both directions, on the Proposed Route during its trial run — up to a maximum of 10 rides.

If Chariot launches a proposed route, what is the minimum trial run period?

If Chariot launches a Proposed Route on a trial basis, it will do so for a minimum of one week.

Who is eligible to participate in this program?

The Program is open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and Washington, D.C. who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of participation; however, employees, officers and directors of Chariot (and immediate family members of such individuals, such as spouses, parents, children, and siblings) are not eligible to participate in the Program.

Where is this program operating?

The Program is currently operating in the following geographic areas (the "Designated Geographic Markets"): SF Bay Area, Austin, Seattle, London, New York, Columbus. Chariot reserves the right to add, subtract, modify or otherwise change the geographic areas constituting the Designated Geographic Markets at any time, in its sole discretion.

This program is void where prohibited by law.

If a proposed route receives enough supporters, will Chariot launch the route?

If a Proposed Route receives the needed number of unique individuals as Supporters within the Support Period, Chariot expects that it will launch the route within two weeks thereafter on a trial basis to determine customer interest and ridership for the Proposed Route. However, launch of a Proposed Route is not guaranteed, including if a Proposed Route receives the needed number of Supporters. Chariot reserves the right to accept, reject, suspend, terminate, modify or supplement (in whole or in part) Proposed Routes at any time in its sole discretion. Additionally, Chariot's provision of transit service (including on a trial basis) is subject to compliance with all applicable legal requirements, including compliance with all permitting and licensure requirements pursuant to which Chariot offers its services.

When does the Program expire?

The Program does not have a fixed expiration date. However, Chariot may elect to suspend or terminate the Program at any time.

Can the Program be modifies or changed?

Yes. Chariot reserves the right to modify or change the Program. If it does so, Chariot will update these Terms so it is important to check back periodically to review these terms for changes.

How may Chariot use my suggestion of a proposed route?

By submitting any suggestions or feedback, including proposed transit routes, to Chariot pursuant to the Program (collectively, "Content") you hereby grant Chariot a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license for Chariot to use, edit, modify, duplicate, publicly display, distribute, reproduce, perform, create derivative works from and otherwise use and exploit the Content in any way and at any time throughout the world, without further approval, notification, or compensation.
